Simon Smyth

Simon is a qualified pharmacist with almost 20 years’ industry experience. He has held a wide range of R&D, manufacturing and commercial roles and developed a deep understanding of the journey from bench to patient.

Simon has a Masters degree in Pharmaceutical Analysis. He brings strong analytical skills, deep therapeutic knowledge and sound commercial judgement. He has a global outlook and is happiest working with or leading global cross-functional teams for a range of senior stakeholders.

Most recently Simon spent almost four years in a global commercial role in AstraZeneca’s Antibiotics Business Unit as Global Analytics, Forecasting and Insights Director – a wide-ranging and strategic role principally focused on the launch preparations for Zavicefta. Simon was also a key member of the externalisation team that divested this business to Pfizer in 2016 and is providing transition support to Pfizer. Simon was previously a Principal Consultant in the Life Sciences team at Wood Mackenzie. He has supported a wide variety of companies with multiple commercial assessment, in-licensing and disease area strategy projects. He has also held both scientific and commercial roles at the contract research organisation Quintiles.

Outside work he spends most of his time running after his young son and Labrador. He also enjoys music and politics, is a passionate surfer and part-time golfer.
